The Role
The Section Manager– Test & Failure Analysis (FA) Engineering leads all test and FA activities to ensure efficient production support, product quality, and on-time delivery. The role acts as the technical authority for test development, troubleshooting, yield improvement, and supports NPI through cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall operation of Test and Failure Analysis Engineering.
- Lead and manage Test & FA team to support production efficiently and meet organizational goals.
- Act as the technical authority and escalation point for all test and failure analysis related issues.
- Provide hands-on support in complex troubleshooting, system-level debugging, and tester architecture.
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of functional test systems (FCT), ICT, and MDA.
- Define test strategy, coverage, and ensure compliance with customer specifications and manufacturing requirements.
- Ensure all test systems meet performance targets such as GR&R, Cpk, reliability, and scalability.
- Oversee and manage the end-to-end test development lifecycle from concept to production release.
- Plan and monitor tester development schedule, resource allocation, and project milestones.
- Ensure all development phases are properly executed, including requirement definition, test concept design, hardware and software development, debugging, validation, and tester buy-off.
- Drive on-time delivery of test solutions to support NPI and production ramp.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Customers to ensure alignment of requirements and deliverables.
- Provide strong technical leadership in NI LabVIEW, including program architecture, development, and debugging.
- Monitor and improve tester uptime, stability, and cycle time.
- Ensure preventive maintenance is carried out effectively and tester downtime is minimized.
- Manage tester spare parts and ensure availability.
- Lead failure analysis activities, including fault isolation, root cause analysis (RCA), and validation of failures for both product and test-related issues.
- Drive test yield improvement across all production lines through data analysis, FA findings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Utilize yield data and FA results to identify trends, close gaps, and enhance First Pass Yield (FPY) while reducing DPMO.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure test readiness, capability, and smooth product ramp-up.
- Participate in company/corporate projects related to manufacturing and operational improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement in test processes, cost, and efficiency.
- Train and develop engineers and technicians in troubleshooting, test development, and failure analysis.
- Act as the technical interface with customers for all test-related and failure analysis matters.
- Perform any other duties assigned by Management.
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering
- At least 10 years of working experience in functional tester development and maintenance, including leadership role.
- Strong expertise in NI LabVIEW (programming, architecture, debugging)
- Solid experience in functional test systems (FCT, ICT, MDA), ATE, and test development, with strong troubleshooting capability.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in failure analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Good knowledge of electronics design, signal integrity, manufacturing test strategy, and statistical analysis (GR&R, Cpk).
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills with ability to manage team and customer expectations.
